About Us

After noticing that my children were better artists than any of their art programs expected or taught them to be, I decided to open Manor Arts, and take a new approach to teaching art to kids and adults.

At Manor Arts, students are encouraged to search for meaning in their art projects so that artmaking becomes a more productive and rewarding creative journey. Manor Arts’ process-oriented classes offer even young students the chance to explore materials and techniques in ways that help them think critically about their art (and other things) and to express their ideas visually. The classes are fun and challenging and taught in a nurturing, open-minded environment.

The classes are small, so everyone receives the attention necessary for their own artistic explorations.

Nurit Newman, the director of the program, is a professional artist who has shown her work extensively in New York City galleries and at museums such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, the New Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, the Jewish Museum as well as nationally and internationally. She has taught children with MOMA, Lincoln Center and the Jewish Museum’s education programs. She has also taught art at the undergraduate and graduate levels at Rutgers University, School of Visual Art and the New School. (She also has three kids ages 9, 5, and infant.)

We are conveniently located in Lefferts Manor. Review our classes and contact:
